Ask the experts
We asked our Senior Sales Designer and window expert, Mark Orwin, to answer some of the most popular questions put to our sales team when it comes to window replacement. You can read his answers here, or check out the video, as Mark covers a range of subjects from virtual appointments through to where our windows are made and what makes them different.
1. I have other home improvements in mind – should I fit new windows first?
Absolutely, because it’s logical when you think about it. Take care of the property itself before you do up the interior – it’s the fabric that protects everything inside. But Lorimer windows aren’t just a practical measure; as well as withstanding the worst of the Scottish weather, they look fantastic when finished, giving the outside of your home a real stand-out look and feel. Lorimer windows will transform your home’s interior too, setting the tone for a whole room and inspiring its décor.
2. Does a salesperson need to visit my home?
No, as an alternative to visiting your home, we can arrange a virtual design appointment online to show you the full Lorimer range and provide you with an accurate quotation remotely. Our online virtual showroom gives you the opportunity to view our products and discuss window styles and finishes – as well as payment options – that suit your needs exactly. We will of course arrange for a measurement survey to take place, before installation, to get the precise specifications we need to manufacture the windows.
3. Where are Lorimer windows made?
All Lorimer windows are bespoke and made to your individual specification, the majority of which are built at our state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, here in Scotland. For certain specialist products, such as the sliding sash window, we work with hand-picked suppliers to ensure we provide only the best home improvements for you.
4. Are your installers properly trained?
Yes. Our installation squads consist of a fully qualified joiner and his mate – we don’t use window fitters.
Before anyone joins our team, they have to complete a series of skills tests to ensure their workmanship is up to ‘Lorimer Fit’ standards. Then throughout their career with CR Smith, we continue their training so that they are always on top of new techniques and can improve their skills further.
You may also be interested to know that we run our own apprenticeship programme. It has been tailored specially to meet company standards and combines the certified Modern Apprenticeship in Site Carpentry and Joinery, with bespoke company modules on customer service, teamwork and product-specific skills.
5. What accreditation do your windows have?
All Lorimer windows are Secured by Design accredited and comply with British Standards kitemarks, as set out under Scottish building regulations. Additionally, they have PAS 24 accreditation for the ‘enhanced security performance of windows for domestic applications’ and they are accredited by the BFRC for achieving an ‘A’ energy rating across the range.
