CR Smith staff were invited to the Social Bite Thank You Dinner with activist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Malala Yousafzai on Wednesday 13 March.
Joining approximately 2,000 other supporters and fundraisers in attendance, they got to enjoy an inspirational evening featuring a facilitated conversation with Ms. Yousafzai, an address from Social Bite co-founder Josh Littlejohn MBE and stories from those Social Bite has helped through its work.
CR Smith is an active supporter of Social Bite. Last December, a team of five CR Smith employees participated in the ‘Big Sleep Out’, raising a massive £3.5k for the cause. This was the second year that CR Smith have taken part in the fundraising event. The dinner was a thanks for everyone’s efforts.
Melissa Hynd from the CR Smith team said:
“I thought it was a fantastic evening and I was so inspired by Malala. Her passion and determination to fight for what she believes in came across and totally captivated me. It’s not often someone can hold your attention in the way she did. She was fascinating.
“I was also moved listening to the personal stories from the three speakers whose lives have been changed by the support from Social Bite. Social Bite has clearly changed the lives for homeless people across Scotland. I’m so glad our team could share the evening with other likeminded supporters.”
As well as raising money, CR Smith donated more than 100 windows and doors to help create the Social Bite Village, which is providing transitional housing and support for up to twenty people. Eleven nest homes and a community centre offer a safe living environment to support homeless people become independent members of society.
