Aberdeen family home upgraded with new windows

Mr & Mrs Bremner moved into their family home around four years ago and undertook some internal renovations. The largest project was to create a large open-plan kitchen, dining and living area to the rear of the property. 

After settling into their new space, they found the old timber windows were no longer providing the right aesthetic or energy efficiency for their home.

With previous awareness of CR Smith, Mr Bremner arranged a home design appointment with one of our local Aberdeen sales designers. Keen to discuss what options for replacement double gl windows were available. 

After deciding on the window and door styles for the property, Mrs Bremner was eager to see what options were available for the internal sills. She chose our royal oak solid timber option for the window sills and patio door surrounds, which matches perfectly with the family’s new kitchen worktops, which are solid oak.

The royal oak interior sills and surrounds were hand finished by our professional decorator in varnish and really stand out in the open plan kitchen and dining area, as they match so well to the family’s oak dining table and existing door surrounds. 

The family replaced old timber framed double glazing with improved energy-efficient, Lorimer casement windows. With a BFRC rating of A, the new double glazed windows will deliver a reduction in heat loss as well as some energy savings. Mr Bremner commented he has noticed “that there is more heat in the house”.

The patio doors in the kitchen dining area also provide easy access to the garden and having changed the colour internally from brown to white, they have really helped maximise the light coming into the space.

“I’ve always known about CR Smith’s, probably through my friends. A lot of them worked for CR Smith years and years ago and then obviously you see their vans and everything around the place.

You see their adverts when I got told they made the frames here in Scotland, in Dunfermline, I thought okay we’ll go for them.

The sales rep who came, he was very, very good. I think he was a local guy. Came in, he wasn’t over-bearing. He told us exactly what we need and what we don’t need you know. So he actually saved us a lot of money as well.

The fitters that came first, they were very good. Very efficient, very quick and then we got a decorator who came in to do the paint finish, the varnish. Then we had another one to come to do the outside, all the brickwork and the cement work. It was quite a well-oiled machine actually.

We tend to spend most of our time now in the open lounge area at the back there because you’ve got the nice windows and you’re looking at the garden.

I feel that there’s more heat in the house now, with the new windows. And when you go over to the windows you don’t feel as cold as it used to be.

I would definitely recommend CR Smith, no problem at all. Everything they’ve said they’ve done they’ve done.

Even to a small repair we had to get done, no issue there. I was quite impressed with the girl that came, she was only here a matter of an hour maybe, and the job was done it was in and out. I’m going where’s she gone? Not even time for a coffee! She was really efficient, no problem at all.”
